Dallas - July 15, 2011 - As one of five North Texas agencies selected to facilitate the new Emergency Homeowners' Loan Program (EHLP), Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Dallas (CCCS of Greater Dallas), a nonprofit provider of financial education and a HUD-accredited counseling agency, is offering free in-person sessions and online webinars to assist homeowners at risk of foreclosure in the application process ending July 22.

The program provides mortgage payment relief to eligible homeowners experiencing a drop in income of at least 15 percent, directly resulting from involuntary unemployment or underemployment due to adverse economic conditions and/or a medical emergency. Under EHLP guidelines, eligible homeowners at risk of foreclosure can qualify for an interest-free subsidy to cover past-due mortgage payments, as well as a portion of the homeowner's mortgage payment for up to 24 months (up to $50,000). Application forms can be found online at: http://www.cccs.net/services/hc.asp

To simplify the application process, CCCS of Greater Dallas is offering informational webinars, as well as the in-person sessions at its headquarters location, 8737 King George Drive, Suite 200, Dallas, TX 75235, during the days and times listed below.

  • Saturday, July 16, 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.

  • Monday, July 18, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.

  • Thursday, July 21, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.; 6 p.m. - 8 p.m

  • Friday, July 22, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. - Last day to submit pre-eligibility intake form

  • "Foreclosure rates still continue to rise across the nation," said Linda Davis-Demas, housing director for CCCS of Greater Dallas. "EHLP has great potential to assist many families facing hardships that have caused them to fall behind financially, and CCCS hopes to help as many homeowners as possible apply for relief by the July 22 deadline."

EHLP was launched by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and NeighborWorks America to help homeowners who are at risk of foreclosure in 27 states across the country and Puerto Rico. Those eligible for the program are homeowners who are temporarily and involuntarily unemployed or underemployed due to economic conditions or a medical condition, and are at risk of foreclosure. It is expected to aid up to 30,000 distressed borrowers, with an average loan of approximately $35,000. This program, unlike previous programs, is not tied to specific servicers or investors which should benefit more families.
